Speaker question

I was in the process of installing my Q Logic kick panels with Alpine component speakers when I realized that the 5 ¼ “ speaker is just a tad too deep and it hits the kick panel sheet metal. I’m planning on hammering a little bulge to make room for the speaker, but for now, I’ve shimmed the speaker outward with a few washers. I’d say it’s about 1/4 inch off of the kick panel. If it works, I might just keep it the way it is because it all fits behind the speaker grille. How does this affect the sound?

Re: Speaker question

the tighter the enclosure the louder and tighter the sound, specifically the bass, is. The way sound works is the whole reverb thing, but if the enclosure isn't sealed properly air can get pushed around it. I dunno if you'd notice the difference with just a 1/4" gap.... but I know there's prolly a lil difference.

Re: Speaker question

The speaker is only a 5" speaker too. It's not a sub.

Re: Speaker question

I personally don't think that 1/4" would matter that much but I am not 100% sure.

Re: Speaker question

I thought you could put 6 1/2" speakers in the Q-logic panels?

Re: Speaker question

Well, I thought that too, but the opening is actually 6.25 inches. And, that is the full opening. There is no extra space. And, most of the speakers that I was looking at were actually a bit bigger in diameter than advertized. Here is a pic of my 5.25 inch speakers in the kick panels.
