Which way does the gasket fold???

I finally got around to installing my cowl again, and I added a new gasket that runs along the top (the one that seals against the hood).

I can't remember if it is supposed to fold back towards the windshield when I close the hood, or if it is supposed to fold forward towards the radiator.

The way it was packaged, it is folding forward at the moment, and it is not allowing my hood to sit flush with the cowl (yes the hinges are adjusted correctly...it sits fine without this gasket)

If it's supposed to fold back towards the glass, I can remove it, fold it the direction needed, and place a board or strip of angle iron on it in the sun until it "assumes the position"

Quick, somebody pop your hood and see which way yours is leaning!!

Thanks guys,
Putter

Re: Which way does the gasket fold???

The fold goes toward the engine. Open ends towards the windshield. You'll probably have to adjust the hood after installing. I had to on the 71. Jeff.

Re: Which way does the gasket fold???

Looks like mine is installed properly, but just trying to bend the wrong direction.
I will pull it off and FORCE it to fold in half. I'll leave it in the sun for a few days with some weight on it....that'll fix'er.

Thanks for looking Jeff.

Hopefully, I can get it to work without using a knife!
The hood closes, just not level with the cowl cover.

Re: Which way does the gasket fold???

I 'borrowed' these photos from N2TRUX buildup thread in the photos department.
See how the gasket folds back over and coveres the screws?
That is how mine is SUPPOSED to look....but doesn't!

Re: Which way does the gasket fold???

BTW, the gasket is sandwiched between the cowl and firewall as well. Jeff.
