carbureation questions...

We have went through 4 remanufactured Quadrajets and none of them have worked except the last one and it hesitates an awful lot. Can anyone tell me what kind of carb to buy or where to get a decen Quad???
thanks
Jason

Funny you should mention the "4" Quads you went thru. I had a similar experience, and wanted to stay as close to stock as possible with my basically stock 350. As soon as I installed it, it had problems. I could not get it to hold a decent idle without dying at some point. Even took it to an mechanoc friend and he did a vacuum test on this supposedly '"reman" carb and found an internal leak. Sent it back, and got a "this is gonna piss some die hards off" Holley 6210 with the divorced style choke, and bolted it right up to my mani-since it has a spread bore flange. Right out of the box, it was beautiful, holds a nice idle even on a hot So.Cal day with the A/C going, and it is a pleasure to hear those secondaries open up. Funny..........I wasn't even a big Holley fan until now.

i'm running a quad i got from my girlfriends brother, (he works in a carb shop), it runs great, all tuned and everything...
but i would highly recommend those edelbrock square bores that everyone on the board loves so much...
i had a 1407, ran great right out of the box...
we just bolted a 600cfm one on my buddies el camino and he loves it...

Hey Jason how much did you lower your truck I love the way it sits I hope mine is a fairly close stance to yours . My frame is together but the body is not on it yet so I dont have the assurance that I am going to like the 3.5 / 5 drop .I just picked up my body mount kit and the 67 front fenders today all I have left to do to my frame is put the brake s on then a bit of work to the cab before it is ready for paint I hope to get a red very similar to yours.

Love your truck it looks Dope!

Quadrajets are sensitive to fuel pressure. If you went through 4 of them I'd start looking for something else . I had to put a fuel pressure requlator in line to my quad to get it to stop surging and cutting out. It was going over rich and running rough until I did that . Runs great now at 4psi line pressure.

I removed an Edelbrock 1405 from my '69 350, and installed a new Edelbrock Q-Jet. No problemo. Nothing really wrong with the 1405, but it needed a rebuild, and I caught the 'Zone with their britches down around their ankles when they shot me a price of $289 for the new Edelbrock Q-Jet! Advanced Auto parts and NAPA couldn't touch it. My Edelbrock catalog has it priced in excess of $500. Yeah, I know I coulda had the 1405 rebuilt for less money. But, I WANTED the Q-Jet.

I have the Edlebrock 600 with electric choke. Got it from Advance Auto parts. It works like a charm. Wootdog
