Has anyone put a 73-87 front sway bar on a 66? Do I use the tower mounts or mount the bushing holders directly to the frame? Thanks for any tips.

I see you asking questions about the older truck, but you're being real sly and not offering too many details on this 66.

Please send me some pictures of what you're doing. The stuff you make is the most interesting stuff I've seen in awhile.

BTW, Early Classic sells a front sway bar kit for the 66 models, and it looks like the normal 67 and newer stuff you're used to.

I think it is more ignorance than sly in this case. For some reason the 66 looks lower than my 67--may not be. I could tell that the cross brace does not appear in the same position as the 67 --looks different also. The 67 is over at D&R getting the orange peel in the clear coat knocked down some. They painted it about 2 years ago -- paint should be good and hard. Should get it back late this week. I had a pair of tower mounts that I got from the Dallas get together-- the guy taught defensive driving classes but cannot remember his handle. I have 4 new 1 1/16" bushings and mounts coming from Summit -- when I get them I will bolt the a-arm bushings to the a-arms with the sway bar and see how things look on the frame - then decide on the towers or some of those custom Brooks mounts. Got my clearance lights on and working on my 06 4x4 --- looks cool.

i used the mounts for lowered trucks from early classics.

TX/Zenish, I went to the Early Classic site and I can probably make the drop mounts from the oem -- cut and weld. TX, I may be able to just modify the pair you sent me with the sway bar -- even the bent one. thanks

Good FAQ TX - thanks ozzy, I will compare the differences between my 67 and my friends 66. My suggestion to him would be power steering next. I put disk and power brakes on it. Need to do something with the steering column later also. Will send a pic --it is just a logbed beater --pretty much orig --283 - 3 speed.

I used a 1975 GMC 1/2 ton front sway bar on my 65 and it worked great. I mounted it directly to the lower control arms. I had to drill 4 holes in the frame.

Good info guys - tks. TX --- I took 1" out of the bent one of the pair I got from you. Since I have to mark and drill 2 pair of holes in the frame, maintaing the hole spacing is not an issue. Also clearance lights on the 06. I got the 67 back tonite --- really smooth -- needs a wash and wax now.

I used all stock 70 parts on my 64 2 inch drop new bushings looks and works great wy buy new mounts?

I used the front suspension from an 85 1/2 ton along with the sway bar. all new bushings but I made my own 2 by 2 square tubing mounts for the sway bar. Welded the nuts inside the tubing and boxed the ends. Bolted them in the stock location on the lower arm but had to drill holes in the 62 frame.
Worked out nice.
