Working on a very helpful tool right now...

My dad and I started on it yesterday. It's a portable tilt stand like was posted a while back for a 78-87 cab. I've got one side rail all tacked together and it's getting TIGed up today.

My materials for this project (estimated at this point, I'll have exact answers when all is said and done...)
- (3) 8' sticks of 1.75" Mild steel tubing (roll cage tubing)
- 27" total of 2X3 box steel
- (4) 3.5" telescoping caster wheels

There are at least 4 total 90* mandrel bends included in this process (thanks to a local chassis builder); alot of measuring, cutting, and tack welding (via me and my dad); and a final round of welding with the TIG for optimal strength and longevity.


The idea behind this one is that it'll bolt up to the 4 mounting points of the cab (where the frame bolts up normally) and when in the upright position, allow the cab to roll around easily on the ground. The upright (vertical) bars will have a 90* mandrel bend at the end of them and will be able to slide into and pin to the horizontal rails. The way I'm setting this up the vertical bars will be able to attach to the front OR back of the cab, allowing the user to tip the cab 90* (unless I go with a little less tilt) to the front OR back. Therefore, you can have it top up, firewall up, or firewall down for optimal working ease and ability.

I'll keep you guys updated (maybe I'll need to mass produce... LOL)

I agree with Eddie. Talk's cheap. Where's the pics?

Really sounds cool though. If you can figure out a way to have it in sections where you can pack it up and ship it. Then the buyer can use pins or bolts to put it back together you might end up rich.

Getting there!

I had some time to work on it this morning and get it down to the welder. Next I've gotta get it up and get holes drilled to mount it to the cab, then will come the wheel mounting and the vertical bars last. So far it weighs a good 30 lbs I'd say and it's really darn stout.

I really like how you did the side tilt on that also, I hadn't even considered anything more than front/back.

That also aleviates the slight fear I had in my 1 3/4 mild steel handling the weight of the cab at that 90* joint. I feel much better about it seeing how well yours is holding up with that cab on it.
