Has anybody used a clutch fan eliminator or heard anything about them? I'm thinking about trying one but I don't want to waste the money or the time if it's not going to make a difference or worse, lead to problems.

I don't want to switch over to an electric.

Why would you want to eliminate your fan clutch?

Direct drive would be a step int he wrong direction IMO.
It is VARY hard to beat a clutch fan in durablilty and performance.

And if it replaces the clutch unit with a solid adapter and still uses the same fan blade unit, it would roar like a dirty SOB all the time, while soaking up horsepower and using more fuel. If that's what it is, it is a terrible idea.

I know I'm hijacking this thread but it's on the same topic anyway.

I have a stock, non-clutch type fan on the '68 396 truck and the stock shroud is in place as well. I haven't had any overheating problems or anything, but it does take a LONG time to warm up. Should I put a fan clutch on it? If so, can I get a clutch and use the same fan or do I need to get a complete fan/fan clutch assembly? If so, what year donors would fit inside the stock shroud with the short water pump?

ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS MEASURE THE DISTANCE ACCROSS THE FAN BLADES
should be a 18" or a 19" i have a few pm me if you want one

I was trying to save on some weight. Glad I asked this one. Doesn't sound like the route to go.

I just switched over from A direct drive (factory) unit to A flex-a-lite clutch and fan. What A big difference in the positive direction!!!!!!!!!!

Are you talking flex fan or alectric driven fan by a brand name of flex lite?

Engine driven flex fans are bad news. They blades are known for flying off and going right through the hood to include the braces on the inner hood.

My personal favorite is just a stock 5 blade fan and good thermal clutch.
