Front caliper bolts

Are they supposed to be really hard to turn in???

It goes in about 1/2 turn easy, then it gets really tight. What's going on here?

Re: Front caliper bolts

Try taking the caliper off and then threading it in, if it still does it, then I would say that the threads are messed up and need to be straightened out. Also clean up the bolt threads on a wire wheel or brush and use anti-seize on them. If the bolts do thread in, then your geometry of entry with the caliper in place is off. But to answer your original ?, no they shouldnt get tight like that only after half a turn. hope this helped.
Keep truckin,
Todd

Re: Front caliper bolts

Yeah, I was trying to put the bolts in (which are new) into the spinde without the caliper on. I was thinking I got the wrong bolts, but I guess not! Definitely helps, but man.. this sucks!

Thanks

You did? Guess I don't remember that
I did have an extra set of bolts, they threaded into my calipers when I was doing some test fitting. I ended up using a new set I had instead.

Re: Front caliper bolts

So I guess it would be a gamble to just ram them in, and hope they fix themselves... I've seen stuff break this way - Anyone know what size tap I have to go get?

Re: Front caliper bolts

Well, FYI, they are 7/16 - 20 if anyone else needs the info... cleaned right up and the bolts go in fine. Now I can't find the rattle clip for the other caliper ......

Re: Front caliper bolts

Did GM go to metric threads on the later models? Might just be the wrong bolts.

Re: Front caliper bolts

I got 1 (only) in a box of new calipers few months back that WAS metric. Go get a new one at the local auto parts store and try that
