Transfer Case 4wd problems

Ill start off with the whole story.
My 91 chevy with the 350 manual is stuck in 4wd. You CANNOT spin the front drive shaft when it is in 2wd. I read alot about the front actuators going bad, so i took mine out and the plunger was extended. Got one and put it in with the transfer case in 2wd. drove home and the 4wd light was still on. got under it, could not spin the drive shaft. I took the actuator out and the plunger was extended again. I decided to get a new switch that goes in the transfer case. The one that is currently in mine has two round terminals where the plug goes. Now, I ordered one from Napa and it had three terminals. I found a 2 hold connector at advance but that didnt solve the problem. I got looking and there are 3 wires that come into the connector. it looks like 2 main ones, and a wire coming from somewhere else. I have a feeling someone wired it up wrong. I have power at both connectors in the plug on the transfer case at all times. and i have power at 2 of the three terminals at the front axle. Is there a way i could make this work by switching the wires, or am i going to have to go to a three prong setup?
