obvious electrical problem?????

Ok so on the way home my dash lights and taillights/brakelights went out on me. I know the obvious fuses and headlight switch, but is there something else I should look for?

It happened after the truck backfired, I dont know if thats any concern to the problem I just figured Id put all the info in when it happend

Re: obvious electrical problem?????

It's a really crazy thought, but there is a plug underneath the truck on the drivers side frame rail for the brake / tail lights that may have come unplugged? I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the dash lights though. Other than the obvious fuse, h/l switch that's the only weird thing coming to mind for me.

Re: obvious electrical problem?????

Sounds like the fuse, headlight switch, or a wire problem.
Before anyone chimes in with "It must be a ground"... it isn't. The grounds are always blamed for anything and everything electrical. Since both the dash and the parking lights went out, it is on the circuit that powers them. 99.999999% odds of it.

Does ANYTHING electrical work? Wipers, radio, dome light?
If not, check the wire that runs from the junction next to the battery to the fuse box bulkhead (on the firewall by your master cylinder).
Try using a test light to see if you have power just before it goes in the bulkhead.
Just a thought and it's free to rule out!
