1970 chevy stepside restore
I have a 1970 Chevrolet Pickup with a stepside bed that has the spare tire cutout. Are there any places to get a patch panel to cover this area to create a solid fender? The solid fenders are hard to find around here. I have been looking but no luck.

Could you buy a new/used fender without that? Mine didn't come that way so I have no reference to look at...but rear step fenders are not real expensive.

Try to find a non-cutout fender that is rusted at the bottom and otherwise useless for your patch. That`s what I`ve done.Or,post a WTT,someone may want the cutout.

Oh yes they are! Repops run around $400 EACH, if that's not expensive, you've got WAY more money to burn than I do. Good used fenders run anywhere from $100 to $250 each, but you may be able to find someone selling one that is rotten on the bottoms for $50 or so and you can cut out the tire section. And no, unfortuneately there are NO reproduction patch panels for stepsides at all that I am aware of If there was I wouldn't have replaced mine.

Seach the posts. I remember a while back someone said they just took the cut out piece out and turned it around.

Welcome to the board from Kent, WA. I don't have a patch panel for you but you should be able to find one on the parts board. They usually rust out at the mounting flange and someone must have a good section to replace that spare tire carrier...good choice in my opinion.

Re: 1970 chevy stepside restore
If you want to make a patch it does not have to be from the driver's side. You can cut it from the pass. side, the back corner, not the front one.
