Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
As I have let all you guys know over the past few months I am in the downhill stretch of my restoration and now I am looking at wheel choices. So far I have narrowed them down to two Weld Racing Wheels. The first one is the Weld RACING EVO Commando XT Alloy-Chrome plated wheel and the other is the Weld Mountain Crusher fully polished alloy wheel. The size I want to go with is either 16x8 or 15x8 but the size must be 6 on 5.5 with at least a 3.625 backspacing. Correct me if I am wrong on any of these specs. Please let me know what you guys think.

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
Both of them are a little busy for me. For some reason I like the XT better. Go with 18's or 20's.....

I am not familiar with your project. Is it a 4 wheel drive ? If so , go with the top one . Frank

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
My truck is a 2wd. The top ones are chromed plated alloy and the bottom ones are polished aluminum. The top ones won't need cleaning but are way more expensive and the bottom ones are cheaper but will need cleaning every few months. However, I want what will look the best regardless of cleaning.

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
Neither, IMHO the simulated bead lock should be left to the 4x4 crowd. Of the two, I picked the bottom one.

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
Apparently the tops ones have been discontinued by Weld. However, they are still available through independent venders. I wish I could find a chrome plated alloy wheel with the same specs as those found on those early 1980s Chevrolet 4x4s. Those seem to have worked the best with my truck. Any ideas!?

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
I think the top one looks cheesy. It just won't work on a 73-87. It would be more appropriate on a new style truck.
I'm not in love with the 2nd style either, but I think it's a major improvement over the top one. |

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
The wheels are going on my 1968 Chevrolet Stepside Short Box which will be Canday Apple Red. The more feedback I get the more I feel I need to seriously think this wheel choice through. Nice wheels are so expensive so I want to make the right choice.

Re: Which Wheel to choose? INPUT NEEDED!
I don't like either for this year of a truck. I do agree that they are more of a newer style truck wheel and that they would be better on a 4 wheel drive.
If these were the only 2 to choose from, I would go with the first set. Just because of the maintenance issue. Polished sucks. Around here with the salt and the road grime I would never own a set of polished wheels ever. My father made that mistake. But as for styling, I would think the second ones would look better then the first on this year of truck. Still wouldn't look right, I don't think, but it would look better.
