How much HP/torke will I loose by going with a bigger pipe?

I have dual Flowmaster 40's with 2 1/4 pipes, I wan to go to 2 1/2 or 3 inch pipes. Will I notice much loss?

Really depends on the torque/hp your engine was built for. Typically if you have a stock engine or slightly modified, you can go with 2 1/2 and gain a bit of top end without loosing much low end torque. 3 inch exhaust on a stock setup will kill your low end torque.

I love the sound of 2 1/2's and 40's. I've run that for several years and still never get tired of hearing that tone

Does anybody have 2 1/2 from the headers and 3 from the mufflers?

Never done that hehe. I would think it would give a "airy" sound though. Might not like that too much.

Yes, i have Hooker headers 2 1/2 in & put of the muffs, with H pipe, & stepped up to 3" on the tail pipes turned out the sides ahead of the tires. this was waaay to loud with the 40s flows,& they were replaced with Dynomax superturbos,& also have resonated stainless tips(much better),has a nice sound, but still has a resonance at hyway cruise that will drive you nuts after a few miles! I think I may go with 2 1/2" tail pipes to tame it down a bit more.......Al

You should get some sweet sound from the the 2.25's, so why change? 2.5's if you really think you need them, 3's a waste of $$ IMO.
