Took my drivers license exam today, with bad results
Hey Everyone,
Over the past two weeks I have been taken drivers training to get my lisence and lower my insurance rates. Well today I took my test and everything seamed to be going fine. No screw ups, did a good parallel park, yielded to pedestians and everything right. I was coming up to an intersection and I was going to turn right and by the time I got there the light turned red. I would be turning onto a busy street and it was rush hour so I decidded to wait it out until the right turned green for me. I could've gone but I thought it would be best for me to wait. So when I finished the test and got back to the driving school, the guy went over everything I did and he said since I didn't turn or atempt toturn when I could have I was be dangerous by backing up traffic. So he marked me down for "lacks control" which is an automatic fail even though he said I did everything else pretty good. I don't see how being cautious and pacient is "lacking control", and my dad and I were try to tell him this for ten minutes and he just didn't seem like he cared at all. So what I going to do is talk to the onwer at the driver school and if doesn't do anything I'm going to a DMV office and talking to them. I know I can take the test again and it's just $45, but I should've past in the first place. Please share your oppions and thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
I had a friend fail his the same way. I can sorta see it both ways but I tend to side with "caution" and patience when I drive.
When you go to re-schedule try and get an appointment at a time in the day when traffic isn't as "heavy" and that should cut down on a lot of "conjested" mishaps like the right turn on a red light and lane changes and merging.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
Sounds like the instructor would of been happier had you pulled out and made the oncoming cars 'need' to avoid you...
There is a difference between 'patients' and 'hesitation' for sure though. Good luck next time. |

Seems protocol to fail everyone the first time in the last few years around here. Keeps the money coming to them that way.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
When I took my motorcycle test many many years ago you had to provide a car and licsensed driver for the instructor. Anyways I come to my first stop sign and stop completly without putting foot down, then make turn. Instructor says oops he fails,my friend asks why and he tells him that i didnt come to a complete stop! My astute friend points out that there is no stop sign and that in fact it has been run over! I pass! We pull in and the instuctor is relaying the story to me and the guy after me taking test makes a left in front of oncomng traffic and gets brushed by a car. Without missing a beat the instuctor says he failed! My opininion is take the test again let it go, just try not to get same tester. good luck! p.s. I had to retake my tests twice before this story do to poor driving habits!

Doesn't sound fair to me. Maybe he wants you to blend in with the stupid drivers that are already out there.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
Funny you should mention it man -- my instructor tried to fail me the exact same way!
However, I'm pretty good with coming up with quick witty remarks, and quickly told her that I usually drive a 3/4 ton truck, and didn't feel safe going with the big truck beside me, as I couldn't see a thing! She went "oh" and didn't mention it on the sheet. I eventually lost 5 points for hesitating at an intersection. Same thing, half way in, but didn't want to go cause there was a car approaching at an alarming rate, who then suddenly slowed right down when they saw me creeping cause of the instructor harping on me. I also lost 10 points for not looking over my shoulder when I put the car into reverse to get the wheels off the curb! I never look all the way over my shoulder to this day, if I can't see it in my properly adjusted mirrors, I won't see it if I glance over my shoulder for half a second, lol Basically, all driving instructors in our area are a bunch of dorks, and I'd suggest that you go back and re-do the test in the next day or two here before you develop of a fear of taking the test Betcha you get it the second time

If you can't provide your opinion without being rude please be quiet. That being said, please don't try to stir crap by being rude to people who are being rude. Thank you and have a nice day.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
Sometimes testers will fail people (esp. younger people) the first time, just for drill. They can always find something, if they are determined to do so. When I took my license test (a long time ago), I yielded right-of-way to a more aggressive driver, and was docked for that -- but passed anyway. You'll probably do fine next time.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
There is pretty much nothing you can do to protest the results. The examiner is offering a trusted *opinion* so it can be subjective in many areas.
I went through that with a "family homestudy" investigator. She was on her own second divorce and had a cinnimon twig up her bum about men.. nothing I could do about it even though it was pattenly obvious in the evaluation that she slanted to the ex. You are in Canada, I'm in the US.. I'm pretty sure that here thre is *no* expectation (not in a legal sense) that you must turn right on red... it is "permitted" (AFTER ya stop ya dang rednecks!) here but not in the least required.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
That is pretty lame. I was cautious when I took my test both times, lost it due to speeding, but just because I was over cautious when taking my test doesn't mean I drive over cautious now. All you do when taking a driveing test is do what the instructor wants, so you look good and pass. Just my $.02

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
I failed mine the first time, only thing I passed was parrallel parking. Boob of an instructor told me after the FIRST turn that I'd failed because the car was a stick shift and I couldn't keep my hands on the wheel properly. I bet that lady still remembers the rest of that ride, she was white knuckled on the grab handle about two seconds after telling me I could not pass. I figured WTH she can only fail me once lets have some fun, but I did obey most of the traffic laws. Okay, some of the traffic laws. Just go take the test again with a different person.

Re: Took my drivers Lisence exam today, with bad results
When I took my test, I had been driving my Dads 3/4 ton Chevy work trucks on country roads for a few years. I pullled out of the DMV lot, parrallel parked and he said " Ok, Thats it, head back" I thought Id failed because of how short the drive was. He passed me. I guess he could tell id been driving for a long time.
Just take it again. You will be more careful next time and you already know what to expect so you wont be so nervous. I know your disappointed but choose your battles wisely.. this one is NOT worth fighting since you get lots of chances to do it over. Taking the test again won't kill ya either. |

Differnet states different views. Add that it's another country, forget the rules we go by or grew up with. Good luck on your next go round edmondton72. Candian694x4 had some good pointers for the next try if you can work them.
