After I got my jimmy restored I couldnt find my dipstick here is a picture of what it looked like.

I came up with a GM part # that may be it. Dealer says no longer available but you might check around with your local parts dept, you never know.

my 2 cents, i would go with a after market flexable dipstick that way you can move it away from the alternater.

You might check and see if a dipstick tube is still available for late 70's van and cut it to length.
