I just found this site a couple days ago, it seems like there's a lot of knowledge here. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to drain 5 year old gas from the tank, without removing it from the truck. Removing it seems like the only way to me.

cant you just pour new gas in, and it cleans and changes the old stuff?
i've heard this before but dont know the truth!

Just did this last week. I used a clear hose to siphon tank. The hose was 1/2" dia. from hd. I attached the hose to a small piece of wood with a plastic cable tie.. The wood was about .75"x1"x4'. I used this to hold the hose to the bottom of the tank. Once drained I added about a gallon of fresh gas. The truck fired up and ran well considering it had been sitting for a year.

Crawl under it and unhook the rubber fuel line. The older trucks had a shutoff valve and a plug for draining. Only problem is that if there is junk in the tank, the strainer won't let it out. Only way to get that out is to pull the tank and flush it.

well if the only way to do it is to remove it that isnt hard.Just a few bolts and some manuevering

Good idea, I couldn't figure out how to keep a siphon hose on the bottom of tank. I'll try your suggestion.

It works for me, I do it all the time for my dirt bike. If I leave the bike for about a few weeks it won't run good so I put new gas in the tank and it would run fine. So that is a good solution, the old gas will mix with the new gas and you should be fine.

bring it to my neighbor he will get every drop out then burn it in his truck i just drained my burb tank of 15 gal. of ten year old gas gave it to him and he was as giddy as a school girl!

if you're not going to buy a siphon tool, just get under the truck and remove the rubber line that jumps the hard line coming out of the tank to the hard line on the framerail (assuming yours has a rubber jumper between). Make sure you have the line pinched off to keep from getting yourself wet

There is a product available in most auto stores called Sea-Foam. It says you can add it to your crankcase oil and directly into the carb, but I don't feel comfortable doing that. I used it last spring with an old 80's Ford Straight 6 pickup that we were selling at an estate auction. The truck had been sitting for years (not sure how long) and would not start. So we put a can of this in the tank and topped it off with gas. Turned it over a little bit to get some new fuel in the lines. Waited 2 days and went out and the truck started right up! It worked really well as an anti-varnishing agent.

Hey here is another easy way to drain the tank, if you have a vacuum guage tester or brake vacuum guage for bleedingt brakes then seal the tank with the cap, hook the pump up to the fuel line pump until the pressure rises then you will see the fuel just come out of the hose, drain into a gas can or jug, while it is draining open up the gas tank, this will make it drain super fast.

Thanks, I got the old gas out and the fresh gas in. The old girl fired right up after about 5 years of sitting in the drive way.
