Timing Tab

I was wondering if anybody had any insight as to why my mark on my harmonic balance is way off from 0 degress when piston is at TDC. It is a bolt on Mr Gasket timing tab. If I remember right I took the balancer off a 95 350, out of a Z71, the motor is a GMPP 350/330 HO.

Also I had #1 @ TDC and dropped the distributor with rotor pointing @ #1 cylinder and could not get it to bust off and run. Any way any help would be appreciated...

Re: Timing Tab

Wrong balancer-timing mark on the '95 is at 12:00 (behind water pump). Get the one that GM sells for that engine. (mark at about 2:00). Also # 1 piston can be at TDC firing stroke or TDC exhaust stroke. TDC firing stroke will push your finger off hole as it comes up. Aim rotor at #1 sparkplug wire on dist cap not at # 1 cylinder.

I don't know about the harmonic balancer mark, but you can time it without a mark (enough to get it running anyways). Where in Hattiesburg are you? I'm no mechanic but if you need help give me a holler since I work in H'burg (off West 7th street).

Re: Timing Tab

Dizzy could be 180 out, referring to what jhow66 said. If you get no joy after verifying your wire, spin the dizzy 180 and try it again. If it trys to fire, you are 180 out. Adjust a little and it should come in. Then once you get the timing mark figured out, time it right with a light. Good luck, Jeff.
