Gauge Dash tach wiring ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello new guy here. My question is, how do you wire tach to HEI? The dash came with a tach lead. The lead has a push on right angle moulded plug that goes to the back of the tach, however the other end has two single push on moulded plugs that are actually on the same wire and then a rubber through the firewall gromet with a single dark brown or black wire with an eye-loop bolt on connector. Can anyone tell me where to hook up the two plugs and the round eye-let? HELP!!!!!!

there should be a terminal on the hei that you plug it into, near the other harness on the hei, the other inside funny looking wire goes to the fuseblock to ign unfused.

Gee Emm, thanks but where does the brown wire go? I know about the Tach lug on the HEI dist. cap. Since the harness was designed origionally for a points dist. Do you think that the wire with the round eye-let went to the negative side of the coil? If so that would be the wire to hook to the HEI diast. cap right?

Yes on the factory style harness the long brown wire went to the neg side of the coil, i just installed mine last week. So I am guessing that it would plug into the hei, ditch the round thing and put a plug in type on the end.

Three wires, four with a light. (-) Black to a ground, look on the back of the dash for a ground screw in the plastic circuit. (+) Red to IGN normally-on or use the fuse panel "Unfused", install an inline fuse. Green wire to the coil or HEI cap terminal, HEI marked "Tach". White wire for light connects to the light switch.

My son and I have a home business, we refurbish 72 Cheyenne interiors, sunvisors, door panels, glove box doors and 67-72 dashes.

We install either Camaro or Sun Super II tachs. The wire info I posted is for these two tachs. We hardly have request for the stock truck tachs.

Just wanted to be of some help.

We have been selling our customized dashes for $400, Sun tach slightly higher, currently backordered.
