Angry Problems with GMC PAUL'S drop spindles???

I bought a set from them for my '72 and the upper ball joints dont fit right. Anybody else have a problem with them. I had ball joints from every year from 60-87 on the parts counter and none were correct. I called GMCPAULs and he said i need to grind down the nut to make it shorter to get my cotter pin in.

Re: Problems with GMC PAUL'S drop spindles???

GMC Paul didn't manufacture them, it's not really a problem with "his spindles". Did you try to call him and ask about it before airing it out on the board?

I hear that McG-whatever company has inferior products. ECE is supposed to be the way to go for hassle-free installation.

Re: Problems with GMC PAUL'S drop spindles???

I know GMC Paul didn't make them.He said that he does run into this every once in a while. I'm not upset with GMC Paul's by any means. Was just seeing if anybody had this same problem and what they did to resolve it.

Thank you,
Andy

I have ordered several parts from GMC Paul and never had any problems, they have been a pleaure to deal with so far.
I will order from them in the future.

Please keep us informed on this. I too have these spindles from him. I have yet to put them on, but if there is a problem, let us know how to fix. Thanks.

Re: Problems with GMC PAUL'S drop spindles???

The problem he has run into, is due to tolerances on the different ball joints out there.

The fix: grind just enough off the castle nut, so that when tightened down, the cotter pin can be inserted.

Thanks Les! You guys at GMCPauls are top notch when it comes to service after the sale! I've had issues with ball joint tolerances with stock spindles, same fix.

Re: Problems with GMC PAUL'S drop spindles???

Like I had previously said, I WILL be buying from them again, and am in no way dis-satisfied with them or their service. I hope I have not relayed a negative opinion about them.

BTW: I am very satisfied with the drop shackles I received from them.

"Anybody else have a problem with them."
By "them" I assume you mean the spindle's. Looks like you had a problem, you called the supplier, he gave you the answer (same thing I have had to do a dozen times) and you should be back on the road knowing one more solution than you started the day off with. Welcome to the world of car building! I am glad you called them first and then asked here. When dealing with suspention parts it is always better to ask first!

Re: Problems with GMC PAUL'S drop spindles???

Rokcrln,
By "Them" I did mean the spindles. I used to be a member of a BMW forum and like this one,it was a wealth of information. If there was a problem to be had, somebody on there has had it and usually had a solution for it.
