Startin to gather up some parts for summer again when Im outta school.

When I switched cabs, my gas pedal went from the rod type to the newer cable type, cept I have no hardware. I think I have a 71 ? type gas pedal, i dunno. Its hooking up to a new Hollley 4bbl carb.
Can someone tell me what all I need to get, brackets, cables, etc...?

That looks just like the pedal setup on my 72, looks like ya need a 72 throttle cable, other years may work and the ball stud for the carb. There is also a small plastic piece that fits in the hole in the top of the gas pedal where the cable attaches. The ball stud for the carb will normally come with the carb.

From what I know that should be all ya need.

Yes - go the GM parts counter and order a 72 SBC throttle cable. Other option is an aftermarket cable - Summit, Jegs, etc or Lokar.

A trip to the salvage will likely be cheaper,and easy to get.

Yeah, but this one is braided!

I am have the braided Lokar throttle cable & TV cable for the 700R4, yes, you have to buy a bracket from Lokar. The throttle cable in that link is for a TPI, but there is a Lokar cable that works great for your gas pedal, I love mine.

I do not normally purchase from the dealer but the chances of finding a usable throttle cable at the junk yard is slim. They are normally cut from the carb instead of unclipped. The outer sheath is often broken. The square bushing is usually pulled from the bracket without looking at how it should be done. Those are some reasons the dealer is a sure thing.

So if a fella decided to go looking through the junkyard for the 72 type pedal/cable assembly, what all year models will work in say, a 68?

Tugawar - cable was used starting in 71/72. 73+ used a slightly different cable. Pick-ups before 71 used a rod to link the carb and arm. You can adapt the entire 71+ style to the earlier firewall without too much work.

What do I need to convert my rod type to cable on my '69? Just the pedal and cable, bolt and go? I have the rod, but it was low on my list since it "works". Anyone have a setup they would be willing to sell a fella? Thanks.
