73 blazer tailgate

Howdy

i have a 73 blazer hardtop with a top that is coming apart at the back end and have been considering putting a bestop softop on it. then i could change the tailgate to the type with no window. like the utility model had? does anybody here know if the utility model blazer has the same tailgate as the pickup truck? anybody have any experience with this conversion? I know this sounds like a stoopid idea but the rattling from the top and tailgate is driving me nutty. Alternatively maybe somebody knows how to fix the hard top. I think if i take it off it will fall apart.

thanks in advance.

Re: 73 blazer tailgate

73-75's that were sold from the factory with no top or just the soft top used a pickup gate. All you need to convert from the glass/tailgate to a pickup gate is to get the pickup gate and all the hardware from a truck for it. All the bolt holes are there in the body for the pickup style gate.

Easy swap....

Re: 73 blazer tailgate

And somewhere i have seen a piucture...maybe one of the detroit B/W's i collect or maybe the parts book from gm where a blazer gate was used minus some of the internals and a special plate sealed up the hole where the window resided.
