well i think i'm gonna bail on the 400 pontiac engine for my 71 3/4 short fleet 4x4 and go with a 500 caddy now i'm not sure my turbo 350's gonna cut it since i got a locker and 33's . i have a 400 but it's a long tail shaft so i guess i need to find a 4wd output shaft and a 400 imput for my 205 or i have a 4 speed grany and matching 205 but i dont think i'll have clearance for cluch linkage any body put a 500 caddy in a 4x4 and what did you use for a tranny would there be somthing betterthan any of these options that i'm not aware of i would like overdrive but i have already gone over board but if there is somthing that would hold up and be cost efective in the long run well then what the he77 it's only money ,right?

an automatic would be easier since you'd end up drilling the crank for the pilot bearing.
Good choice on the motor IMO!

A TH350 can be built to handle it.

thanks for the info guys but i still haven't seen a 4x4 swap, im gonna check out pirate 4x4 i know it's been done i know i nee a left ex. manifold as this baby is in the same eldorodo i got my rear caliper cores and parking break levers. i went back to the boneyard today put a battery in it and she fired right up no smoke or lower end noise. there was some lifter noise but it was last regestered in 02 when the tranny sh!t to bed i plan on going through it and given her what she needs i would realy like to find a nice 2wd 3/4 or 1 ton to put it in for a tow rig

There used to ba a cat on here that did a cad 500 in a cucvee pick up.. he responded on there, but not sure if he gave specifics or not.
