Door hinge pins ??
I have a 77 half ton and was wondering if anyone has replaced the door hinge pins? Can this be done with the hinge still bolted to the body? Or does the whole hinge need to come off the truck first? I was thinking I could remove the door and then replace the pins without taking the hinge off.

Re: Door hinge pins ??
I have never done this, but the topic comes up pretty regularly. I think the question has even been asked in the last week, so you might try doing a search.

Re: Door hinge pins ??
You will want to leave the hinge bolted on the truck as long as there is clearance to be able to hit a punch with a hammer to drive the old pin out. It will be alot easier to leave it on the truck, rather then trying to secure it in a vice. At least thats my opinion.

Re: Door hinge pins ??
The easiest way that I have found is to remove the door completely and leave the hinges bolted to the truck. Then take a die grinder and cut the old pin right in the middle and pull the pieces out through the top and bottom. All you have to do then is figure out what size bushing works best for your hinge condition then slide the new pin in the hinge and bolt on the door and do the final adjustments.

Re: Door hinge pins ??
I did my 82 without removing the hinges. Like dirtylarry, I cut the old pin in the middle and pushed them out the top and bottom. I did have to loosen and readjust( and shim in my case) the hinges once the new pins and bushing were in. BTW definitiely a two man job.

Re: Door hinge pins ??
I just did my drivers door the other day. My way was to use an engine hoist to hold the door after I unbloted it from the hinge. I have power windows and was too lazy to take the door completely off. Took a dremel with a cut-oof wheel and cut the old hinge pins in the middle and punched them out and then put new bushings and pin back in. Took 30 mins tops.
