Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

This is my first post to the forum and my first venture into the fun world of classic trucks. Be gentle .......

I have just purchased a '71 Chevy C20 Longhorn that has been basically restored. It has the 350 with a 200R4 (yes ....200R4) with shift kit. The truck has 87K miles on it.

Other than the tranny being changed the only other change was puting the gas tank under the box.

Soooooo, here's is my question .....

Will I de-value the truck if I put power windows & door locks on it? The main reason why I ask is because the truck is so close to being stock (aside from the tranny & Gas tank). Is a 'true' stock Longhorn worth more 'un-modified'?

Thank in advance!

Tom

Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

I see a couple items that aren't 100% dead on right, but they are minor details, otherwise, it looks liek a pretty nice truck.
Generally, people get all crazy about Cheyenne trucks, cheyenne supers, and big blocks, and tend to look over the lower option packages and small block trucks. (I am refering to the big dollar sellers... not the normal people who actually enjoy there trucks)
I would say do what ever you want to make it your truck. if it makes you feel better, don't do anything that can't be un-done... nuts and bolts instead of mig anf tig.
That way, if the longhorns start going across the Barret Jackson auction, you can make it original again and rake ion the money.

Welcome to the board, real nice truck.I think it would detract from your trucks value at this point. It`s so stock in appearance. It`s harder to come up with an original looking truck than a modified one.Power-windows would come-along for me way down the list after lowering, custom wheels`n`tires, custom interior/paint...

Do whatever you want to these things. These year model trucks will never get in to the 100,000.00 dollar or even 50,000.00 dollar range like some old mustangs, camaros, cudas, corvette's and such. Hack away and be happy.

Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

Thats one nice piece you have. Like Longhorn Man say's it is yours so do what you want as long as it can be put back with no problem. I think power windows and door locks would be a great addition to it. Oh yea, Welcome to the Board. Home of Centuries of Knowledge on these great trucks.

Yeah, but the old Camaros,Mustangs,Cudas,Corvettes and such at one time someone would have been considerd nuts to say that a 71 hemi Cuda convertable would sell for 3,000,000.......serouslt the guy as later offered 5,000,000 and wouldnt sell it Nice truck Welcome to the board

Re: Will this DE-value my Longhorn????

Nice truck. A lot of people build the 200 instead of the 700 because it's a direct bolt in for a turbo 350. You'll also hear arguments that the 200 can be built up stronger than the 700. 80's Grand Nationals and GNX's used the 200 as an example.

Hey that's a nice truck you might want to consider these style electric window crank switches http://www.snsclassics.com/doors.html

I saw those years ago and thought they were neat, but I thought they went under.
i read an article on them about 10 years ago or so and they seemed to like them.
