700 R 4 In a 69 C10
Any one know whats involved in getting a 700R4 to function propely. Cuz the Po on my 69 Just slapped it on and didn't do any thing to make it function properly.
I recently replaced the t.v cable (Trottle valve Cable) so now it shifts properly but there is no over drive in it and I was told that It's controlled through an electrical solinoid. Any info on how to wire it will help. Thank You In advance |

no... it is controlled by the TV cable. How did you adjust the cable?

Like Longhorn said...cable. The wiring is for the T/C lockup. That may be what you are missing.

lowburb is doing this conversion as we speak. He is using a "painless" harness for the lock-up function. He said it looked to be a very nice kit.

Also check out; http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/index.shtml You need to make sure that you have the electrical system connected so your torque converter locks up when in 4th. If it doesn't you can burn up your trans in a hurry. It doesn't hurt to install a temp gage into your drain plug.

Opened the throttle, with the cable discconected then pull cable to engadge then press button on tv cable. Do you have any part number for the painless harness?

if you have an intake and/or a carb that did not come from the same vehicle as that tranny.. then that may not work (probebly won't work) and is probably the root of your shifting problem.

Its's currently parked but my other question is should I get a tv cable for a 700r4 in a chevy 350 Or which cable should I get. I know that this tranny came from a chevy astro van with a 4.3.

I wouldn't mess with the guesswork of trying to get the right TV cable off a used vehicle. Almost everything GM made had a 700R4 in it from about '83 to '92 or '93. Everything from caprices to camaros to trucks to vans and they were all set up different and most had different brackets, some were carbed, some FI, some throttle body...etc... Your best bet would be to save up about $80 and buy the TV made EZ cable from bowtie overdrives. It takes all of the guesswork out of installing the cable. All you need to tell them is what carburator you have.
Bowtieoverdrives.com I can tell you from experience (trans blew after 5K) that proper TV cable adjustment is VERY important. Hope this helps you .
