Re: will 455 mount up
What kind of 455? Buick, Old, or Pontiac?
Anything will fin in these trucks, but it won't simply bolt in. If you are lucky, you'll have minimal fabbing to do, but just about any gas motor you could find will fit. (I have a Cad 500 in mine) |

Re: will 455 mount up
Like I said, not a direct bolt in. yes, either a BOP tranny, or an adapter plate would be needed.
As for how to mount it, I say pull the front clip off, remove what is there already, dangle the motor in there bolted to the tranny, See if it's going to clear everything, and then figure how to bolt it down. 73 - 87 engine mount towers are great for odd ball engines. Mine had a pontiac 350 in it, and now the aformentioned cad motor on those towers. Then, simply reroute fuel lines if need be, move battery to other side with an Aux battery tray if need be, hook it all up and head to the muffler shop for some pipe work. Here's how i did my caddy swap, much info which you could use on your swap. (we want pics when you're done) http://www.geocities.com/caddyoneton/ |

Re: will 455 mount up
I will be putting a 455 Buick in my 72'. But, I am still working on the frame and suspension. The motor and tranny came out of a 70' Chevy truck, I got the motor mounts with the motor, I don't know what they came out of, but they are hacked up abit. It looked like the engine and tranny were in the stock locations.

It all depends on how high the engine is sitting once it's all done and overwith, and also fore and aft will help determine that too. |
