Clutch pivot ball breakage

My son has a 72 C-10 shotbed with a small block, 3 spd setup. It was formerly an inline 6. We've had 2 clutch pivot balls break within the last 2 or 3 months. The z-bar appears to be setting square with the world but I understand there's a different z-bar for the V8. Could this be the problem?

Thanks in advance.
