Transmission swap?

I have 70 1/2 which had a TH350. When swaping to the 700R4 will there be any clearance problems with the cab?

If you haven't seen one then, well ...
If the truck is a 4x4 or a Big block then it should have the high hump. All others are low hump

My longhorn was a 350/with 400 turbo & a low hump,no problems. If you are mounted in 6 cyl position(stands), it might be tight.........Al

I had a cab off a 68 truck on my 69 frame while I had my 700 installed. There was a really slight clearance problem with one lip that protruded from the cab. It was in the trans-hump area. The rub was so slight that it may have just been limited to my cab being stamped odd. But now I have a 69 cab with a big hump. Zero problems.

The 4 speed trucks had high humps, and aperantly (although not documented) the V-6/TH400 GMCs had high humps too.

I have a 402 and a 700R4 in a 70 low hump and theres plenty of room. If you have a clereance problem you might want to check your cab mounts.

Mounted in 6/250 position, you may have to cut the lip off the bottom of the cab(across the trans tunnel). i think the rest will clear, but will be tight. My 69 also has a body drop, so it needed the trans tunnel reworked.Good luck.....Al

Re: Transmission swap?

Can anybody tell me if the high hump trucks were factory big blocks? And another question, which tranny is a better swap the 700r4 or the NV4500?

Re: Transmission swap?

this is the second 7 YEAR OLD THREAD to pop up this week!

High humps came in;
all 4X4 trucks
All 4 speed trucks
All big blocks that had a 4 speed or automatic.

As for the tranny question, the 4500 is probably stronger, but the 700 can be built stronger, the 700 can be installed with less work, and possibly cheaper.

Re: Transmission swap?

I really want to stay with a standard. 5 speed would be great for the rpms, and no patching the floor.
