Engine Finally Turn-Key

Well after fixing all the leaks, swapping to a 7qt pan, and all those other fun little adjustments I can finally just walk out to the garage and fire it up. Those uncapped hooker super comps aren't very neighbor friendly but I cant help it. It brings a smile to my face everytime. I may even be able to take it on its first trip around the block this weekend if all goes well. Just need to finish some wiring, install the new driveshaft, hook up the shifter linkage, and bleed the breaks. But I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Wish me luck.

Very nice. I know what you mean about enjoying firing it up. When I got my 454 running, each time I'd go to the barn to feed the cats, I would fire it up - my wife called me a dork each and every time. She doesn't get it, but that's okay.

Re: Engine Finally Turn-Key

Every neighborhood I have lived in I have made enemies ! (Some darn good friends too....)

Some people just don't get it. Typically those of the female variety....and those who are sad they aren't female !

Yukon: Your wife and mine must be kin to one another ! My "toys" have done more to "undo" my marriage than I can say.

Congrats RaiderManny: Looks great and I bet sounds even better !

Nothing like a little "exhaust note" to let the neighbors know you're a GearHead !

Ya'll have a good weekend !

Re: Engine Finally Turn-Key

dallas71 I used a cork gasket from Kragen. I was going to use their neoprene gasket but it was $60. Seemed to pricey to me.

Re: Engine Finally Turn-Key

Raidermanny,
Looks awesome. Whose front end did you use and how did it fo together?

Remember, in this era of insane fuel prices there is no substitute for a properly tuned and FREE-FLOWING engine. You should be a hero in the neighborhood for been willing to maximise your fuel economy. But, about those dry hops down the block . . .

Thanks,

Wow! That looks sweet. Looks to me like you've had a few grin sessions even before you were able to fire it up.

Re: Engine Finally Turn-Key

Thanks for all the compliments. The front end is from Fatman Fabrications. At first I was going to go with bags but I decided to go with coilovers in the rear for traction so the front had to match. They advertise the kit as bolt on but there is welding that has to be done also. It wasn't a real hard install though.
