Re: Daytime lights

I had a 96 S-10 and when I applied the parking brake the running lights went out. I was going to use that switch to try and keep them off, but the flood of early 97 here in Louisville took the truck with it, so I never got a chance to try it out. Just a thought though...Randy

Check here...

I, myself have a 2001 S-10, with the automatic DRL's, and I don't mind having them on all the time. It lets people see your vehicle better during the daytime(which means less accidents). Also, people complain that it burns out your bulbs to quick, but actually it only draws a low current from your high-beam's, which by the way, most people don't use that much anyways. I have had the original high-beam bulbs for 5 years now, without a problem.

Re: Daytime lights

Alright thanks, it worked for the blazer, now to tackle the SS with fogs in which the #15 fuse runs off of.

Re: Daytime lights

I used to think DRL's were stupid, though I've never owned a vehicle that had them, I always said I would disable them if I ever did.

Then I got older and realised something.... there are a TON of distracted drivers out there. Everything from cell phones jambed in their ear to kids watching DVDs in the back seat. I'll try to make them notice my vehicle any way I can. If DRLs will grab their attention then so be it. And some day, when the 68 is on the road again and some other things taken care of, I'll try to find a way to put DRLs on her too!

If it keeps a lil old grey hair from pulling out in front of me then its worth the little extra pull on the alternator. My .02

Re: Daytime lights

Yeah, why do you want to remove them? Unless you are creeping around in your truck at night with the headlights off and don't want to be seen, you are just disabling a safety feature with really no negative side effects. Better to be seen by other motorists than not!

I imagine that taking the bulbs out would make it hard to illuminate them

Re: Daytime lights

The blazer have composite lights(two bulbs-day lite/running). TugOwar, I hear ya ..trust me I drive semi and have seen it all cell phone, impatient on ramp lane changes, sex acts. so distractions aren't a problem.

Re: Daytime lights

personally, i still think they are stupid.
I can't remember the details... a kid at work did this on his 96 or so s-10. he had to pull a relay, but that left him with one light out, so he had to remove one of the prongs on the relay. Sorry i don't have any specifics.

Re: Daytime lights

If your fuse panel has a seperate fuse for DRL's then you should be able to just pull it, if the truck also has auto on headlights it will disable them to most likely, if you want to keep them you will have to do some creative wiring.

Re: Daytime lights

Dim white lights in the distance on a 2-lane highway can look just like bright white lights that are much farther away. It's a good way to cause a head-on collision in marginal lighting conditions. I'd disconnect them on day one if I ever bought a vehicle that had them.
