How much should I pay for...

1986 Scottsdale
8 Cyl
Full size bed
Tailgate good shape
Leaky cover, only locks on one side (cant tell from outside unless you tug on it)
Engine has been completely overhauled
New Transmission (less that 15k miles)
Some rust, oxidized paint
Few dents and scratches
Tires okay
Door hinges shot, warped
Doors out of alignment
Locks need replacing
New radio in dash, speakers behind back seat uninstalled
No A/C
Turn signal handle broken, dash kinda crummy

I need a reliable but extremely affordable truck to do occasional light hauling for my job. I will have to PAY for all repairs and can only afford to do what's absolutely necessary, but will start with the doors and hinges UNLESS you guys say walk away. This truck was kept running, but never taken care of otherwise. It has a million little things wrong with the body, but runs good.

How much would be fair to pay a friend (actually the Pastor of my church)? He used it for hauling flowers, but does not need it anymore. There's some rust in the bed, and the inside smells like mildew where he has a piece of carpet laying in there. I would throw that away of course and scrub the bed, then maybe spray paint it myself to keep the mildew from coming back. Cab is fine.

What will it cost me to have those hinges replaced? That might nix the whole deal.

1,000 to 1,500 would be expected but less is alway better

Re: How much should I pay for...

I'm pretty sure the cab door hinges and locks need replacing. Since I can't do the work myself am I stuck buying the parts from whoever will, or do I buy my own parts online and take them to the shop?

Any idea how many hours labor it will take to replace the hinges and locks at an independent shop? Should I pay by the hour or by the job?
