Re: Found a 4x4....guy says make offer.
Given you may not be sure what is wrong with it til you get it running, and it looks to be a daily driver without much work, maybe at least a couple thousand - no less than $1,500. Of course, that is what I would like to pay, maybe not what I would sell it for. Just hard to tell without pics. My rule of thumb with 2wd is nothing over a $1,000 unless it runs. Others may know more about 4x4s.

Re: Found a 4x4....guy says make offer.
"Pretty staight and pretty rust free" and no pics is a tuff guess. Check the rockers, cab corners, floors and floor supports out. But with an a/c cab and good straight non rusted short box, it's got a good start. Even if the motor is worn out, $1000 wouldn't scare me at all. If it runs pretty good, I'd probably go 2K easily. Ther's so many things to consider, tires and wheels, interior, paint, trim, trans and transfercase. What did the motor come from and how many miles on it. How many miles on the truck? Tach, tilt, bucket seats, trim package?

Re: Found a 4x4....guy says make offer.
Like the one post said, take some good gas and battery and get it started. also go over it with a finetooth comb looking in/at/under for any problems. I would also take a magnet with me just to check for and bondo areas. If it looks like a really good deal and it is a 4X4 I would start at $1,500.00 but would stop at $2,000.00. Lots of luck and hope it is what you first saw.

Re: Found a 4x4....guy says make offer.
Not sure about your area but here in Southern Ca. A 67-72 4x4 will get at least 2k and that is with lots of air holes in the cab. 3 to 5k in decent condition still needing repair if a SWB. I was in no hurry when looking for mine and my brother happend to see it in a teachers yard up in Northern Ca, asked what he wanted and it was mine the next day for 2k. Truck was real solid and ran well, IMO I just got lucky. Was offered 4k the next week sitting in my driveway. That being said, If a LWB I would start at 1k to 1.2K and go from there.
I see it is a SWB....1.5k is a good starting point IMO.

Re: Found a 4x4....guy says make offer.
I` wouldn`t bring gas and battery.I`d tell him to get it running and I`ll make you an offer,as it sits I`ll give you $1,500.He may be so tickled you`d pay that and he wouldn`t have to touch it(as it`s been for years)that he`d go for that and be done.Talk awhile first.Casually bring up things that can harm an engine/truck from extended sitting like pitting machined surfaces(bearing surfaces, cylinder walls, valve stems...)or dryed seals or frozen clutch & brakes.Make it know without saying it that you taking a crap-shot.It turns it into a favor you`re doing him.He doesn`t want to go through it and may wonder who would...you!I would pay up to $2,000,maybe more for a truck like that.I would be buying it for what it is and it`s hard to findness, the actual factory configuration:`69 shortbed 4wd with a/c.That could be a very valueable truck after 5 digit$ and some blood, sweat,`n`tears. It ain`t worth a damn if you can`t get it.You can do the battery and gas at home.If the motor is healthy,Great! You got a bonus.Chances are,it`s good. You get the truck going for him, then he has something that`s more sellable and worth more.

Re: Found a 4x4....guy says make offer.
I bought my 69 K20 for $1,750. He was asking $2,000. It had new tires, new brake lines and very minimal rust. I would offer him probably $1,000. Maybe even less depending on the feelings I got from him. I definitely wouldn't start much lower than $1,000. You can always act dumb if you start a little too low and he knows what it should be worth.
I would approach him with the "it's your truck, I hate to make the first offer cause I might offend you" - then if he insists, hit him with $800 and see what he does - you can always go up.
