Door panel questions

Can you put panels off a 78 on the 73-75 style doors? I haven't tryied yet and just noticed that my wife bough new panels for 78 and I put doors off a 75 on her blazer. Just wondering if anybody has done this? I'm almost done converting her blazer and would like to make sure that they can fit before I paint it.

Re: Door panel questions

I had a similar question in June 2004, and this is what BigBlock73 told me:

"Any door from 1973-1987 will fit any truck from 1973-1987. The difference between the doors are the door panels and guts. 1973-1976 doors are unique to themselves. The guts and door panels will only fit doors of the same years. 1977 on up, all parts interchange I believe."

Hope this helps. I'm sure others know more than I do

These are the pix I got back then from Capt Kaos (I hope they load; first attempt here )

Re: Door panel questions

For clarity, the top pix is the 73-76, the bottom the 77-87. Note the smaller door panel openings on the earlier model.

Again, others may know more than I do...in fact, I KNOW they do

Re: Door panel questions

Thanks Eagle23

I put 77+ door panels on my '73 doors...but the window stalks are too short and will not allow you to put the handle on the door...without caving in the door panel in that area...and scratching it all to hell.

You can find 77+ guts and put them in...but keep in mind the track the window slides on inside the door is different too...and you will have to replace it with a 77+ unit as well (it is spot welded in).

Hope this helps some more.
