67' question

I guess its actually a 70 question. Ive got a 67 longbed with a 70' 350 in it. It has a four speed with granny gear. Im looking for an automatic and would really like to fit a Th400. Does anyone know if it can be directly bolted? Or any that can? Thnx

Absolutely,a 400 turbo hydromatic will bolt up to your 350 no matter what year it is.A th350 will also do the job. Some say that the th350 shifts harder.

Re: 67' question

I think you`ll need an automatic croos-member.The 4wds swap right in,that`s all I`ve done.

Re: 67' question

I would like your sm420 4 speed if it is good condition. Shipping would be high most likely. zip 75022 I can pick it up at a truck terminal including ups or fedex.

Re: 67' question

going to a 400 turbo will require the drive shaft to be shortened. A 350 turbo with a short shaft tail, is a direct bolt in.

Re: 67' question

I think you will have to remove the front manual crossmember for clearance. The SM420 may have a driveshaft yoke that the driveshaft bolts to similar to the rear end. If that is the case, driveshaft mods will be needed. Your current shaft likely has a slip joint near the hanger bearing, and that wont work with and auto setup. Might be cheaper to find the front half or whole shaft from a truck with whichever trans you use, there should be plenty still around.

Re: 67' question

this would be an easy swap being that the truck could come with a TH400 or a TH350 in 70 hooked to that engine.
You'll need;
Tranny
probbably drive shaft mods/replacement yoke
tranny cooler lines
tranny cooler (real big one if you don't have one in the rad)
a way to shift it (aftermarket shifter on the floor or a new column, good time to get a van tilt unit)
auto tranny cross member
tranny mount
Shift linkages (n/a if going with an aftermarket shifter)
*MIGHT* need a longer speedo cable
