Water in oil, please help,need opinions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Finally got everything put back on my wife's '68 Chevy. New everything! Got it fired up right away, adjusted timing, then set the idle up to 2000 RPM to break in the cam. Oil pressure great, sounded great, running cool. Checking for leaks after about 6 min. then checked the oil. MILKSHAKE!!! I took the intake back off and there are a couple spots that look like they could have been the problem. After only the initial 6 min. runtime there was 3-4 qts water in the oil. No steam out the exhaust at all. Do you think I'll be safe with intake gaskets? Do you think the bearings got hurt? Thanks in advance.

drain the oil try changeing the gaskets and try again if its not the intake gaskets you are l;ooking at blown head gaskets for a cracked block but as long as you dont have the knocking sound of death just change the oil might have to change it 2 or 3 times to get everything out of it

I had a similar experience after firing up my motorm turned out to be a crack in one of the valve seats... I flushed the motor several times with fresh oil and filter so far so good.

Yeah, I'm thinking that much water that fast has to be the intake gaskets.

Once you find the water leak I'd be checkin the bearings.Antifreeze is very abrasive. 6 minutes of liquid sandpaper should be plenty of time to wipe the bearings.

When I put my intake on my brand spank'n new GM crate engine, I was filling the radiator up with antifreeze/water and and I hear water splashing down onto the ground. Turns out my intake manifold gasket slipped down in the rear right side, not sealing the water holes. I drained the oil and changed the filter, and redid the intake. I'ld check your intake.

I put on new intake gaskets and put it back together last night. If it's not raining when I get home I'll start 'er up and see what happens.

Everytime I used the front and rear galley seal I had leaks. I now use RTV on the front and back(wait 12hours at least to set) and leave the oil pan drain out, Fill the rad and watch for water to come out the drain. Then put drain in and fill with oil and start it.
