Brake light

On my 82 the brake light stays on. It started the other day. The first time it did it I turned the truck off & on & the light went out. Now the brake light stays on. Pressing the E brake make the light brighter but releasing the brake doesn't make the light go out. I looked in my shop manual & couldn't find anything about it. Thanks!

Re: Brake light

Here is the thing, the emergency brake pedal is not going completely back to the position to depress the brake light switch to OFF. reach under the truck and pull on the E brake cables after they have been released and the light will go out. The problem is that the switch either needs to be adjusted or the E brake cables need adjusting to make the pedal return to full UP position. I usually just stick my foot under the truck and push on the cables when this issue shows up, to get by until I have time to adjust the cables.
