BB Mounts...
I've been looking around and the local parts places dont even list a motor mount for my truck. And I found 2 different kinds on websites one for sb and bb 67-72 and one for 396. I dont know much about these trucks yet and dont know what I need. Also the crossmember seems to have found its way free from the frame partially Does anyone know where I might find a replacement? cant find one so far. I'll have to take pic tomorrow if needed. All help appreciated.

Re: BB Mounts...
OK, they made two different type of Big Block motor mounts 67-71 and 72 only, the 72 only had a problem with the rubber, alot of guys use the 73 and up BB motor mounts because they are still available new from GM, check the Frequently asked questions and you should find a thread on the motor mounts that you need. If not check thru my previous post and you will see the set that I sold. Good luck and welcome to the board

Re: BB Mounts...
If this is for your 4x4, you wont find any mounts. GM never made a big block 4x4 until after 72...

Re: BB Mounts...
Thanks, is the crossmember specific for a BB? Will a 73 and up cross and motor mounts work on my truck?

Re: BB Mounts...
You can use the 73 4X4 and up crossmember and mounts with a little modification..
If yours is a 4X4 and has a Big block in it just use the Small block mounts they work fine.. I have two 4X4's using the small block mounts.. |

Re: BB Mounts...
Here are some pictures of the mounts and crossmember, sorry for the quality, I dont have my camera right now so I have to use my phone. I dont know if this is even the right crossmember...??
As you can see the crossmember has broken away from the frame on the drivers side and the manifold is sitting on the frame.

Re: BB Mounts...
Wow!!.. What you have there is the lower half of a stock 4X4 crossmember and 67 - 71 2WD Big block towers and rubber cushions that appear to be welded to the top of the stock 4X4 crossmember. the stock crossmember should be bolted to the frame on both the top and bottom.. here is a picture of a stock one
Personally I would find a complete stock 67 - 72 4X4 crossmember and use the small block cushions.. or go ahead and find and put in the 73 assembly.. it is a much beefier setup.. and more likely to find in a wrecking yard.. Last edited by Livrat; 05-13-2006 at 12:55 AM. |

Re: BB Mounts...
I figured somethin screwy was up with that. Well I guess my plan is to re-bolt the bottom parts down since there were just welded and the welds have obviously broken, and get BB mounts for a 2wd?

Re: BB Mounts...
The 73-80 engine crossmember is superior, as stated. Installing one entails drilling a couple holes and maybe a little trimming. Depends also on where on the frame the engine is placed. The 73-80 xmember also has a foward sweep to the crossmember that enables the use of more oil pan types.

Re: BB Mounts...
That is one way to go.. The 2Wd BB mounts are expensive and not always easy to locate..
Personally I would toss the entire crossmember you have because to me it looks "mickey moused" and the other welds may not be strong.. At least find a stock one in good shape, Or better yet dig up a 73 - 80 one.. either way you will have to drill some holes as it appears your frame does not have any where needed hence the welding.. |
