personally....I like brake cleaner the best for an off the shelf item.

The best thing i have seen is sporatic acid it will take the rust paint and make your frame shine but ya better have a good mask ya dont want to breath to much of it but buddy does it ever more work

hand cleaner(any kind but i use the orange stuff) and a couple of brushes.

castrol superclean is about the best out there. Just be sure to use gloves, It will pull the oils and moisture out of your skin in a very short time.

For general cleaning, I take it to the car wash and wash it with the wand with the engine running.
