Re: Broke Down In Kansas (please Help!!!!)
I'm not able to go help. I did try pm's to some members in the area, hopefully someone can help. Breaking down on the turnpike in that area is the pits. If he calls *KTA they can at least send a motorist assist truck or trooper.

Re: Broke Down In Kansas (please Help!!!!)
Good news!!! This board is awesome, Josh is with piecesandparts from the board, apparently he was about a mile from where Josh was and is going to let him leave the truck there until he can get it fixed or towed. He said to tell everyone "thanks so much and he loves this board", he's good for the night now and says if anyone knows anyone that can do the work for him etc. to call him on cell (910)488 4692. Thanks again to everyone for all the help.

Re: Broke Down In Kansas (please Help!!!!)
Got the word from Fred but it looks like I'm a bit late, talked to his wife and she said the truck got hot and was knocking, might be bad. Glad somebody was so close.

Re: Broke Down In Kansas (please Help!!!!)
Ok Guys, I made it to Wichita. As stated by my better half, the truck is at piecesandparts place. He was literally a mile from where I last stopped. Wasn't quite on the turnpike yet. I believe it is exit 148 on 35.
I'm pretty sure the motor is shot. Knocking real bad. So tomorrow I have togo and try to sign in with the local Army recruiter (only allowed in emergencies and I hope this qualifies) then start calling around to try and find a motor. Frank (piecesandparts) suggested that I go to a dealer. May as well go with a 350 since I planned on doing it anyway (just not so soon!) I guess what I need to know if there is anyone nearby with a trailer or dolly that would be willing to help me get it somewhere I could do the work. Frank said worst case I could work there but he has done alot already and has three and a half trucks of his own going on. Thanks again for all the calls and help, hopefully someday I can repay the favors. |

Re: Broke Down In Kansas (please Help!!!!)
The truck needs help, the knock was loud and deep in the motor. Josh said he was dumping water into the radaitor about every 10 to 15 miles, the knock could have been caused by water in the cylinder. It starts but you have to help it with a little starter fluid. I have the wife checking on a crate motor at the Topeka Chevy dealership (the only GM Perf. Parts Outlet that I know in my area), they usually have them in the warehouse. She is also calling a Salvage Yard for what a used motor would run.
Josh had to go onto Wichita to get situated and he is hoping to work the truck down there. That is about a 110 miles from my house. |

Re: Broke Down In Kansas (please Help!!!!)
After seeing this happening I'll put my name on the list. It' s a real bummer to have something like that happen and be so far away from your home.
