Just got back from Southern Utah, very nice.
Flew to Vegas from Philly. Rented a car and drove to Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Mesa Verde, Arches, Canyonlands, and Colorado Nat. Monument. I was very impressed with the people and scenery. I only saw three 69-72 Blazers in Moab, Utah. A med. blue was for sale with the tailpipe coming out of the front of the rear wheel wells. Make sense? Looked strange. Should have taken photos. Needed some TLC.
There were some serious rigs in Moab. Jeeps, Broncos, Scouts, Blazers, Jimmy's, Defenders, Land Cruisers, you name it. A few were on trailers.Where were they taking these rigs?

Moab is a 4x4er's dream place so I hear. Would love to get there someday!

They probably weren't taking them, they were brought to where you were. Serious trail rigs lack streetability (or longevity). Trailer your wheeler, have fun (break it is you must!) trailer it home, end of story.

Re: Just got back from Southern Utah, very nice.
In September 2003 my wife and I flew to San Jose and bought a 1976 Chalet Blazer from the original owner. We drove it across Nevada on HWY50 (It's called the loneliest road in America) It is a two lane road and you can drive for an hour and not see another car. I never expected to see free range cattle in the desert. Couldn't wait to get back to Utah. Ouir last 3 vacations have been spent there. I have posted a picture of our Chalet in Moab at the KOA campgrounds. I hope you got a chance to visit Lion's Back while you were in Moab. Lion's Back is right next to Slick Rock and some serious off road trails. Most likely that is where most of those rigs were headed. We would love to get back this year but our daugther is expecting our frist grandchild and she is in Australia. Utah will have to wait, maybe next year. We would love to live there. We have a few more years before retirement. I can always dream.

I know the rigs were brought to Moab on a trailer, but they were trailered out to an area outside of Moab for off-roading then back to Moab at night. I came in late Saturday night then got up early Sunday morning. I would love to live there too. The weather was awesome. 90 and sunny. No humidity at all. Awesome view of the La Sal Mountains in Colorado. Still have now on them. The open range cattle can be a bit disturbing when seen on the highway moving at the posted 75 mph at night. Those cows don't move out of the way. Came two feet from totaling the Cobalt I was driving as two cattle were walking up along the shoulder of the road.

That there's actually a 'blazer bash' or the 'meet us out there' part? Yeah, it's a real deal. Myself and another K5 owner in NH are making the trek in October. It goes Oct 6 - 9th Couple threads from CK5 on the subject. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169002 http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169468 |

Re: Just got back from Southern Utah, very nice.
You taking your precious green jewel out there or do you have a sacrificial lamb? Driving or trailering?
I would need to buy another blazer to use for off roading. I could never take mine out there. If I scratched it, I would be pissed. If I dented it, I would cry. If I rolled it, I would find the nearest arch to jump off.

Naw, green one stays home, green one stays all nice. Trailering the 'other' K5, the b-tard child built for abuse. Last edited by vtblazer; 05-22-2006 at 05:54 AM. |

Re: Just got back from Southern Utah, very nice.
If i don't hear from you guys i'm gonna be po'd! I live 100 miles from Moab in fruita colorado...well allmost...still in junction and they should start building our new house and my garage on the 5 acres we just bought in fruita.
Anyways...knock on wood...i've never missed a gathering from ck5...starting with the original why to k5 run. I think steve will make a new rule this year that i am not allowed to buy any raffle tickets as i seem to allways win something or other. Last year was a new soft top for the 73 K5 project...lol. The last two years i had to shop up in the chalet as the 79 has been out of commision since after EJS 2003. She's been in hiding at ORD's shop and should be ready to go in the next few weeks which gives me ample time to rewire some stuff...and a stereo sytem...and some final touches before i deem her road worthy again. At which point she will resume her position in the fleet as the daily driver and the chalet is going to be decommisioned for a bit for a restoration of sorts.... Anyways if you plan to come across I-70 to moab i will arrange something for you. It might not be the best but at the very least you will have a secure place to park a trailer with a K5. We are displaced at this time while the house and my garage are being built. So...we are staying with my mother inlaw. The place is easy to find....24 road exit off of I-70 west...at the end of the off ramp make a right turn on 24 road....head north until you hit K road...approx 4-5 miles straight north with no turns. There is a stop sign at K road with the only turn being west (L) on K road. Looking to NW you will see a rather large white house on top of a hill with a empty plowed 10 acre feild beneath it...thats the place...1123 24 road...GJ-Co. 81505. Hope to see ya.... DW
