Turnsignal switch does not cancel itself

My turnsignal switch on but will not click off after I have turned a corner. It used to only do it when for LH turns. Then the other day something clicked inside and now it does the same thing for RH turns. So now I have to remember to cancel it every turn.

What is the problem?

Thanks in advance
Andy

Sounds like the cancelling springs are broken. Pull steering wheel to replace. Sorry no pic but parts house should have them.

I see LMC lists a Canceling cam. $9.95. I think I'll check with GMC Paul's first though.

Re: Turnsignal switch does not cancel itself

Head to any auto parts store and get a turn signal cam kit. Get the complete kit with springs etc. Remove the steering wheel horn button and install.

When I took mine apart it was a mess. No springs, plastic sleeve on shaft was worn down, (has ribs that contact the springs for cancelling). In your case, it sounds like the spring holder and/or springs are worn out. Pay close attention to how it comes apart.....instructions with the kit are for wasting paper !

Kit is about 10-15 bucks if memory serves me correctly.

GOOD LUCK !

If you get lucky, you jus tneed to replace the little spings, just fixed my right side the other day, that was all it was, simple and cheap.

It looks something like this (not exact part)...

They have them on the HELP! aisle in the parts store if I remember correctly.

72 SAME AS 73? Parts place has 1973 in stock but has to order 1972 in? I see some parts interchange through the years, but not sure on this one as I dont have interchange on this part.

Re: Turnsignal switch does not cancel itself

I don't think so; '73 uses the new column with the ignition built in. Fairly different if memory serves.

Re: Turnsignal switch does not cancel itself

You only need the springs most likely. The dealer should have them, they are like 39 cents each or something.
