Got my 400 sb back from the engine shop!
For those that don't go to the Blazer forum, I'm in the middle of getting my 1970 K5 on the road. Here is a link to info on the project.
Got the 400 sb delivered on Saturday now gotta find some of that elusive free time. Here are some of the specs on the rebuild: Degress .05" dur 204 Int. 214 Exh., Degrees ADV. dur 278 Int. 288 Exh., Inches Valve Lift Int. .420, Exh. .443, Degrees Lobe Center Int. 107, Exh. 117 Should be a good low end torque cam with the power range of 1000-4500. The block was bored .020 over and the crank was cleaned up. It now has hypereutectic pistons and with the 882 heads with 76 cc the engine should have a compression ratio of about 9.5:1. These heads came off of a 400 so they have the correct steam holes. The intake is an Eldebrock Performer and the carb is a Jet Stage II 750 cfm quadrajet. The fuel pump is a Holley and the engine guy said to watch it cause it is 7 psi and he wondered if that might be a little too much for the carb. The next two weeks are going to be a bit busy for me but hopefully I can find some free time in the evenings to get more done to the Blazer.

Re: Got my 400 sb back from the engine shop!
I think I better hold on to it, shipping would be too much to send it to you all.
And I keep my shades handy when I'm out staring at it to protect my eyes

Re: Got my 400 sb back from the engine shop!
Yukon...I had a holley fuel pump on my quad and screwed it up. I thought it would be fine. I was so anctious to fire it up. If I were you I'd put a regulater on It just in case.. 7psi Is kind of alot....And one more thing ever since I laid my eye's on that silver flat bed of yours I have decided to go with the same color and toss my bed for a nice flat bed fifth wheel set-up only im runnin dual's....HOPE YOU DONT MIND, STEALIN YOUR IDEA'S......

Re: Got my 400 sb back from the engine shop!
local13hutch - I guess I better start looking for a regulator - don't need any problems with the carb. I don't know anything about regulators so I hope they don't cost too much.
Make sure you post up some pics when you get your truck converted to a flatbed - they sure are handy!

Hey 'Jack unless Holley says otherwise you will not need a reg. to run that pump on a Q-Jet.

Re: Got my 400 sb back from the engine shop!
I think the stock style pump does fine. It really is a good, reliable, proven design.
But Edelbrock does claim that their Performer fuel pump doesn't put out too much pressure and needs no regulator: 6 psi.

Re: Got my 400 sb back from the engine shop!
I think the paint is just from engine paint from a spray can. The engine guy painted it.
I'm so eager for some free time to get this installed! Never driven anything with a 400 sbc so I'm eager to see what it can do.
