Newbie here.... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey everyone. I'm Mike from San Antonio, TX. I've always loved 1st gen Blazers. I have fond memories of being in my uncle's Blazer when I was a kid. I bought a 72 CST Blazer about 3 weeks ago. I got it in mid-restore with brand new alcoa's and procomp 35s. The guy threw in the floor and rocker pans, both bumpers, near perfect seats, a roll bar and a hard top. The drivetrain is done and solid but, as usual, it's got rust on the floors and rockers. So far I've been buying sheet metal and the tools I "think" I'm gonna need. It's a project Blazer, no doubt, but with some hard work and help from you guys I'm sure I can get it done. Here are some pics the day I brought it home.

BTW, I wanted to thank yall for all the knowledge that is shared here. It's really invaluable to those of us just starting out. It's good to know there are others out there that delt with the same things we're going to have to deal with.

Thanks a lot guys. When I bought it, the guy said I just needed to cut the rockers off and parts of the floor and weld new sheet metal in. It turns out I need the rear section of the floor pan and the fron cab supports. Should I put the top on or just brace at the door? Run TMC, forgive my ignorance, but what is panel shift and where would I see it? One of my main concerns is when I get these pans cut out, will the replacement parts line up? I'd like to see how a finished floor is supposed to look, without carpet of course. Oh and Tim, Mich and Chris were some serious ballers back in the day huh?

You are the freaking man for picking that up. I've used that name for years in other places and no one gets it. Yes they were some ballers. Still a die hard Warriors fan. That's so cool dude.

Panel shift. I'm refering to all of your door gaps, fender gaps and hood gaps and so on. Blazers with worn body mounts tend to have funky gaps in the panels. It can also cause your bumpers not to fit right. Click on my RunTMCfan name and look at my profile shot. I suffer from bad gaps at and around my doors. I'm putting in a new body mount kit to solve the problem. I might need shims.

So stoked you picked up on RunTMCfan...

Thanks again everyone. It supposedly has a 4" "soft ride" lift? That's what the guy told me anyways. I'm surprised at the mount of clearance these things have. The engine is pretty new, its a crate engine similar to what came in my 96' Tahoe. This thing actually makes my Tahoe look like a baby. Here's a picture for comparison. The Tahoe is my daily driver, I put a 3" body lift (cheapest way to get some nice rubber on it), some 285 MTRs and a pre-runner bar that I had line-x'd.

It's a good thing yall love pics because I love taking them and posting them. I'll post some pics of the rust tonight. As far as the full time hubs....I would assume so, since there's nothing to lock but it is a 4x4. I'll have to look into it.

RunTMC: Thanks, I knew right off the bat what your nickname was all about. When they weren't playing my Spurs I was a fan. Did Mullin EVER miss a shot? Those three have to be one of the best trio's in NBA history although we have 3 guys down here who are pretty darn good.

RunTMC is considered the best three man monacher ever. They averaved almost 75pts per game. There is no better trio in any sport.

75 pts a game? Wow, I did not know that. Yeah the frame is painted...everthing below the body has been worked on and is in great shape except for a leak that I think is coming from my tfer case.
