Speakers in side wall

Can anyone give me ideas or post pictures of what they did to install speakers in their side wall??? I have 2 10" woofers 2 8" woofers, mids and highs, but not quite sure what I'm going to do. A friend of mine wanted to do a fiberglass set up, but won't that be too heavy???

Re: Speakers in side wall

Fiberglass is by far the best way to go. That is ultimately what I'm gonna do. I have extensive car audio experience. Fiberglass is "framed" with MDF. I have built numerous MDF enclosures that weight over 75lbs. I'm pretty sure a fiberglass enclosure would be much lighter than 3/4" MDF.

http://www.caraudiohelp.com/car_audi...fiberglass.htm

Click on that link. It's the first one I found. Usually MDF is used to create the back and some side panels. Then a wooden ring is mounted/suspended in the location that you would mount your woofer. So you now have a "ring" suspended over the enclosure. Then you can use a plyable cloth to strech over the ring and around the wood to give you a basic shape. This shape is later reinforced with fiberglass and resin.

My explanation is extremely simplified. I'm just sharing the concept. The actuall process is time consuming.

Oh no... don't cut holes in the side panels. Just kidding, it's your Blazer, do what you want. I'm not sure if you have enough clearance to mount a sub in the side panel. I would like to know if it's possible.

I started a thread a little while back about mounting a 10" subwoofer under the front passenger seat and some guys were tossing around the ideas of other mounting locations. You can check out the thread for some ideas.

Keep us abreast of your finding, plans, and progress.

i think the speakers would weigh more than the fiberglass box. check these out:
not blazers but it will give you a good idea.

im getting this set up in my tahoe some day. they quoted me 400 out the door just for the box and amp rack no speakers or amps. not bad if you ask me. ive seen this truck in person and its looks like a factory install. i mean color / quallity of the materials. SUPER SLAM!!! im gonna do two 12's these three are WAY TOO MUCH for me. hella tight tho.

Re: Speakers in side wall

I believe Green Monster that he was going to build new panels. The original panels would not be a sufficient baffle. Depth clearance would be really tough as well.

Re: Speakers in side wall

There are numerous resources out there on glassn' techniques. Fiberglass is pretty much the future of all car audio. Everything that was previously made out of MDF is now going to be 100% fiberglass or an MDF/fiberglass combo. Pretty much my entire set up (one day) will be a fiberglass/MDF combo.

Okay...so fiberglass is the way that I'll go. Question for those that live in Northern California. Do you know anyone that can do this type of work near Antioch???

Re: Speakers in side wall

In the bay area you will have no problems at all. Read some Car Audio mags. The bay area is loaded with talent. Keep in mind custom fiberglass work is extremely expensive. Most of the installers choose to paint the enclosure rather than cover up all their hard work with vinyl or carpet. In order to paint they need to do tons of prep.

I grew up in Fairfield. That place used to have all kinds of talented installers. Don't know any more.

Re: Speakers in side wall

i agree its cheap down here and there are ALOT of shops, so the competition is good. but there is also alot of shady shops. i would recommend www.autosoundspecialist.com for the fibergalss stuff. but buy your own speakers/amps etc. on ebay. these guys will install it and not over charge on labor just cause you bring your own gear. if you are not in a hurry i can drive my blazer over there and get a quote just let me know how you want your set up. i wont have time till mid june. let me know.
