Late model bed wheel arches

Has anybody ever tried to weld in a factory 67-72 fleet wheel arch on a late model bed?. Would it even work?. I like those beds but the flat arch don't look right with the rounded front arches!.

Re: Late model bed wheel arches

Don't know why it wouldn't work. There was a high-dollar truck built about 3 years ago, or at least featured in the truck rags, that had wheel openings from the 88-98 body style. It looked good. The truck was yellow and had an extensive list of mods, including no drip rails, glue-in windshield and on and on and on. Lots of money invested and Classic Trucks magazine took two months to feature it in consecutive issues.

So, anything is possible with the right tools and expertise.

Check this one out.

I've also bounced the idea around my head for using a ranger step side, but haven't checked the dimensions yet.

Re: Late model bed wheel arches

Heard the late model Chevy beds were plastic or fiberglass but can't verify that. Hell to weld to that but you could use the General's glue since he has approved it for sheet metal body repair!

It depends on the bed, the sport side beds had glass sides, but the long fleet side beds are all steel.

Re: Late model bed wheel arches

yeah, the step sides are plastic/fiberglass something or another.
If that arch thing bothers you, take a real long look at the trucks with that bed, see if the other aspects bother you too... it doesn't even come close to fitting IMO.

1LoC10, Welcome to the board from Kent, WA. Nice truck. Did you do the work yourself? More pics would be great.
