advantages of the 72 doors?

What are the advantages of having the 72 doors with the screw? Does it hold the vent window tighter or make it easier to install? I am redoing a set 67-71 doors for my 72 and they need that spacer to be re-welded and i was wondering if i should try to just cut that piece from the old 72 doors.

Thanks
Tim

Re: advantages of the 72 doors?

The screw in the 72 doors helps keep the bracket below the wing window from cracking. I have messed with both 72 and on the 67-71 doors almost everyone of them the support bracket had cracked in half. I am useing the older doors on my orange and white. I am just planning on welding the tabs back together. If I was going to spend that much time with the screw I would just buy new 72 doors. I hope this helps.

So are the bracket welded together on the 72? I figured it was done to make the vent window install easier by allowing you to pull the panels apart.

Re: advantages of the 72 doors?

the bracket should be one piece, it should look like a square "U." I bought new doors for my truck and I got the '72 doors. Once I had the windows in I put a screw in and it pulled the door together just enough to get a nice seal around the window bottom and door.

Re: advantages of the 72 doors?

Thanks for the replys. I think I am going to cut that out of my old 72 doors and put it in the 67-71 doors since i need to make some repairs in that are anyway.
