Junkyard score

Yesterday I went to the junkyard. The one that I normally go to wasn't open, so I went to another one, but this one was totally self service.

I was going there for a hub for our little POS subaru that broke down last week. Well I found that fairly quickly. Then I started looking around for anything else that would be usefull.

Well I found a nearly perfect 67 or 68 GMC grill. It was a pain to remove, but I got it. I also got a pair of hood hinges off the same truck. I was about to order a new pair of hinges for like $45 each. I like the this grill better than mine cause it will allow me to remove the trim that is attached to the very front of the fenders. I never liked that trim, but it looks bad without it, since my grill has this trim.

I walk around looking for some good seats, but couldn't find anything I liked. So I go pay for my parts......$34 total! Talk about cheap.

My wife also picked up the "Wife of the Year" award for helping me!

Nice score! You're going to have to share the location of that one...

Re: Junkyard score

If you don't want the trim you'll have to do more than swap the grill. The 67-68 grill with the 67-68 top bar (painted bar riveted to the top of the grill) won't work with the 69-72 hood...

To use a 67-68 hood (which looks better in my opinion) you'll need the grill, top bar, hood release, and grill support from the 67-68. Not hard to do once you have the parts...

Good luck, Rg

Re: Junkyard score

Some guys have all the luck..........I wish I could find some sweet fender trim and so on for my GMC, but the salvage yards here suck lol.

Re: Junkyard score

Actually, you don't need to swap grills on a GMC.
You say it's a 67 or a 68... if it says GMC in the center of the grill, it's a 67, if not, it's a 68 - 70 grill.

It was a 68 then

I might have to go back to get the hood release then too.

This was "Pull a Part" in Lakewood WA

Re: Junkyard score

Is that the one next to McCord AFB or is there another one I don't know about?
