Cool sharp short fleet PU stopped in yesterday.

Nice little SWB...frame off build...bagged.
A lot of aftermarket parts: cowl hood, fenders, outer grill, billet inner grill, TG, and it all fit very well with some talented adjustment from a good body shop.

(The da**ed new chrome grill would not even come close and had to go back to the old standby alum grill shell. Tried that chrome grill on this truck and then my all original GM fenders/hood/CS. Still would not even come close. I'll show the pics one of these days. Trying to get the big company to refund and that is not going well either.)

Oh, I thought you might like to see real easy/simple gas fill for rear tank. An alum gas door and marine filler with lock. This is on the alum tank I have made up with a top bed fill. The side marker fill or bed side door are nicer, but expensive and/or very time consuming. This goes in fast and easy.

I really like that fuel filler setup and i am going that route also......what do you guys do about the ribs in the bed floor to get it to sit flush? Thats my biggest hold up @ this point.

Re: Cool sharp short fleet PU stopped in yesterday.

Frank, That is sharp. I have donea similar fill door in the bed. I used the aluminum door off a H2. It is big enough to fit above the fuel cell opening. What grill was that you had problems with? Is that the same one I came over and picked up? I got the one like LMC is selling that you had hanging on the wall. Thanks

bskylerj: The "trouble grill" is from another company. I think they are the only distributor for the outer grill with no center.
We have been able to fit the grill you got/complete grill package, with inner already built in, much better.

Re: Cool sharp short fleet PU stopped in yesterday.

I like that idea since I have been wanting to do that sometime. I would like to learn a little more about it. How did the filler neck go on? Got it at a marine shop? Where did the aluminum cover come from? And would like to hear the answer to mblackburnjr's question. Thanks for sharing!

I think the best option is to flatten that area of the floor. I had to do a similiar modification for my widened wheel wells. I just cut pie shapes out of the rib, bent the tabs down, then welded and ground them smooth.

After welding and grinding;

I was pretty happy with how these came out, had to do 2 per side.

Re: Cool sharp short fleet PU stopped in yesterday.

It looks like the one on the silver truck is sitting on top of the ribs....How do you make that sit flush?

I almost think it would look nicer if it was recessed on a flattened surface and then do the ribs like Big Sky did though.

Wow bigsky71! thats a pretty slick mod that probably nobody would even notice! On an oval it would be alot of work, but well worth the effort i imagine...........

I think on a curve that mod would be tougher. It would probably require adding a few small pieces of sheet metal to complete the bevels on the ribs, but it would sure look cool.
