WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
I am in need of the Hatch locking mechanism so my Hatch will stay up.
Or if someone knows how to rebuild them, and would like to give some advice, that would be great too... Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff |

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
NOPE, not the same. If I recall correctly the Suburbans are a tad longer, about 2 inches.

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
Does the 2" make a big difference?
I just bought some from a fellow forum chap, that said they would fit. He said they are from a 72 Blazer. Will I be fine on this one? Is the 2" that big of a difference? Thanks Jeff |

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
When I attempted this, the suburban "struts" when closed were about 2 inches too long, and therefore would not fit the mounting points. If you mounted them on the Top, they would be two inches too long were they had to mount on the Hatch. As long as you leave the Hatch open your OK, but closing the Hatch, big trouble. That's just my experience, different years may work, I don't know. But I think that is why the struts are so darn expensive, no one makes them, and you can't use ones from other vehicles.

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
If the blazer ones are 2" shorter, then when put onto my Suburban,
wouldn't the hatch on my Suburban be around 2" shorter, or less open, when opened. I would think that closed would not matter. Sound right?? |

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
As much as I can remember about the suburban struts besides the length difference is that they also mount slightly different to the upper hatch as the Blazer ones do, I tried to switch them and they didn't work out. Just my little input on the matter.

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
jmbstudios, that's correct. I have a Jimmy and tried using the Suburban "struts", so they were too long. Going the other way, would be too short.
Since you already bought the Blazer "struts" you'll have to see how they fit. Let us know.

Re: WTB 72 Rear Hatch Locking Mechanism(Bars)
YOU are RIGHT!!!!
The ones I bought came off of a 71 Blazer and they are too short (about 3-4 inches too short). That is not a big deal for me. The bid deal is the Blazer hatch supports have a lip on the Hatch side of the bracket. Its like an 'L' shape bracket. This will NOT fit on the suburban. I will need to buy Suburban Specific hatch supports..... I now have a set of 71 Blazer hatch supports for sale!! Anyone interested.. I would like to trade for the Suburban ones! I will post these for sale in their own forum as the original post here was a WTB... Unless someone gets to me quickly. Thanks Jeff |
