More Progress - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well, got to spend some time with the 70 today. Put some purt-ees on the engine. My valve covers came in yesterday, so I put in the studs and hooked them up with the breather this morning.

Then I painted my headers. It may not last long, but they will look good till it runs a bit. I'll have to make due with these headers until the money starts rolling in

Then I broke out the welder and started working on welding up the firewall. Made some patches for the heater box openings, then proceeded to put my rusty welding skills to work again. Dang I wish the welding would move faster on sheet metl, but gotta go slow so not to warp things. Anyways, I got a bunch of little holes welded up and gthe fill plates in. Need to go back and tack a few more places in and then I can start on the blower hole and clutch rod hole.

Now on to the hunny do list

, maybe I'll get to play more tomorrow.

1994 Chevy 1500, with the 4.3 V6 (v8 or V6 workwill work).

How and why does everyone get rid of the heater box? I have noticed this a lot. I know this is a stupid question, but it seems every knows this but me.

Most will agree that the factory heat/ac box is too big and takes away from the rest of the engine bay as far as looks are concerned. Removing it also allows more working room under the hood as well. Some who chose to keep the factory air box smooth it up and paint it a glossy finish. A personal preference thing.
Now if we could just get that big azz power brake booster/ master cyl outta there........

Maddog...eventually I'll be adding aftermarket heat/AC. Yes, it is mostly a visual thing as that big box is ugly. Since it is not a daily driver (yet), I'm not too worried about heat or A/C yet. But A/C comes first in the south.

Hart_Rod.....I'd like to see it running by Crusin, but I dunno. But I'll be there that is for sure.

Bill,

I would recommend that you buy the bulkhead fitting that you are going to use on the firewall (for the a/c - heat). This will allow you to mock it up and cut the hole before you paint it. This will save you some time and headache/worry later. There are a lot of different styles out there. Here is a pic of one off of ebay:

Also, please keep me updated on the CTC. I have lived here 6 years and never been to one. I'm going this year one way or another.

All I was gonna do to my truck was "replace the 700R4 and do a "quickie" paint job"

Those things are strong as crap!

Yep they are life saviers Putter. And cheap, especially when you have access to folks that break lots of hard drives.
