Serpentine Belt ?

Did GM make a Serpentine Belt setup for an early SBC that didn't have an AC bracket to it? I would like to start looking for this setup in a junk yard if I knew what vehicle to look for. Again, I'm looking for one without the AC option.

Re: Serpentine Belt ?

You can get them from the dealer still I assume, I picked up one from Wes's Classic heartbeat. It just bolts in place of the A/C compressor.

Re: Serpentine Belt ?

Look for wrecked 1 ton 30 Vans & trucks w/ a 5.7, I just saw a 95 Chevy-30 Van that was a locksmith's truck and was wrecked in the front & rear, it did not have AC or smog, just the PS & Alt & 2 idler/tension pulleys @ the 10:30 & 5:30 o'clock positions. Next trip into the yards keep an eye out for all-white rigs that look like contractors or city-owned vehicles. This was the 1st one like it I have ran accross and it's a cleaner looking setup IMHO.

Re: Serpentine Belt ?

The early TPI camaro's 85-87 had a different setup then the one pictured. the alt is mounted on the pass side and the serp belt went around the crank wp and alt and think the PS pump was run by a v belt........ also the water pump is normal rotation too.....

Re: Serpentine Belt ?

Also watch when you get a reverse flow waterpump, they do not have a nozzle for the heater. Make sure you have a radiator connection, or the waterpump your purchasing has a threaded plug where you can swap out the nipple from the old waterpump.
